Croatian · Verb Tables · Beginner
jesti means "to eat" in Croatian. Simplest present: ja jedem, ti jedeš, on / ona / ono jede, mi jedemo, vi jedete, oni / one / ona jedu. Below: all 3 tenses we teach, with examples.
Drop -ti from the infinitive and add -m, -š, -Ø, -mo, -te, -e/-ju to the stem. This one form covers both 'I do' and 'I am doing'.
| ja | jedem |
| ti | jedeš |
| on / ona / ono | jede |
| mi | jedemo |
| vi | jedete |
| oni / one / ona | jedu |
Use the short present of 'biti' (sam, si, je, smo, ste, su) with the main verb's l-participle, which agrees with the subject's gender in the singular.
| ja | jeo sam / jela sam |
| ti | jeo si / jela si |
| on / ona / ono | jeo je / jela je / jelo je |
| mi | jeli smo |
| vi | jeli ste |
| oni / one / ona | jeli su |
Add the short present of 'htjeti' (ću, ćeš, će, ćemo, ćete, će) after the infinitive; for -ti verbs the -i is dropped when written together as one unit (radit ću).
| ja | jest ću |
| ti | jest ćeš |
| on / ona / ono | jest će |
| mi | jest ćemo |
| vi | jest ćete |
| oni / one / ona | jest će |
| Jedem ribu. | I am eating fish. |
| Jeli smo u restoranu. | We ate at a restaurant. |
