Croatian · Verb Tables · Beginner
piti means "to drink" in Croatian. Simplest present: ja pijem, ti piješ, on / ona / ono pije, mi pijemo, vi pijete, oni / one / ona piju. Below: all 3 tenses we teach, with examples.
Drop -ti from the infinitive and add -m, -š, -Ø, -mo, -te, -e/-ju to the stem. This one form covers both 'I do' and 'I am doing'.
| ja | pijem |
| ti | piješ |
| on / ona / ono | pije |
| mi | pijemo |
| vi | pijete |
| oni / one / ona | piju |
Use the short present of 'biti' (sam, si, je, smo, ste, su) with the main verb's l-participle, which agrees with the subject's gender in the singular.
| ja | pio sam / pila sam |
| ti | pio si / pila si |
| on / ona / ono | pio je / pila je / pilo je |
| mi | pili smo |
| vi | pili ste |
| oni / one / ona | pili su |
Add the short present of 'htjeti' (ću, ćeš, će, ćemo, ćete, će) after the infinitive; for -ti verbs the -i is dropped when written together as one unit (radit ću).
| ja | pit ću |
| ti | pit ćeš |
| on / ona / ono | pit će |
| mi | pit ćemo |
| vi | pit ćete |
| oni / one / ona | pit će |
| Pijem vodu. | I am drinking water. |
| Pit ćemo kavu poslije. | We'll drink coffee afterward. |
