reći means "to say" in Croatian. Simplest present: ja kažem, ti kažeš, on / ona / ono kaže, mi kažemo, vi kažete, oni / one / ona kažu. Below: all 3 tenses we teach, with examples.
Drop -ti from the infinitive and add -m, -š, -Ø, -mo, -te, -e/-ju to the stem. This one form covers both 'I do' and 'I am doing'.
| ja | kažem |
| ti | kažeš |
| on / ona / ono | kaže |
| mi | kažemo |
| vi | kažete |
| oni / one / ona | kažu |
Use the short present of 'biti' (sam, si, je, smo, ste, su) with the main verb's l-participle, which agrees with the subject's gender in the singular.
| ja | rekao sam / rekla sam |
| ti | rekao si / rekla si |
| on / ona / ono | rekao je / rekla je / reklo je |
| mi | rekli smo |
| vi | rekli ste |
| oni / one / ona | rekli su |
Add the short present of 'htjeti' (ću, ćeš, će, ćemo, ćete, će) after the infinitive; for -ti verbs the -i is dropped when written together as one unit (radit ću).
| ja | reći ću |
| ti | reći ćeš |
| on / ona / ono | reći će |
| mi | reći ćemo |
| vi | reći ćete |
| oni / one / ona | reći će |
| Što kažete? | What do you say? |
| Rekao sam mu istinu. | I told him the truth. |
