Dávat Conjugation

dávat means "to give" in Czech. Simplest present: já dávám, ty dáváš, on / ona / ono dává, my dáváme, vy dáváte, oni dávají. Below: all 3 tenses we teach, with examples.

Simplest present přítomný čas

Drop the infinitive ending and add the personal ending for each person. This form covers both habitual actions ('I do') and, for imperfective verbs like dělat, actions happening right now ('I am doing').

jádávám
tydáváš
on / ona / onodává
mydáváme
vydáváte
onidávají

Simplest past minulý čas

Formed with the l-participle (agreeing with the subject's gender: -l for masculine, -la for feminine, -lo for neuter, -li/-ly for plural) plus the present tense of být as an auxiliary, except in the 3rd person where the auxiliary is dropped.

jádal/a jsem
tydal/a jsi
on / ona / onodal/a/o
mydali jsme
vydali jste
onidali

Simplest future budoucí čas

Imperfective verbs like dělat add the conjugated auxiliary budu/budeš/bude... before the infinitive. Many common verbs are perfective instead, and simply use their ordinary present-tense endings with future meaning (e.g. udělám, 'I will do/make', from the perfective udělat).

jádám
tydáš
on / ona / onodá
mydáme
vydáte
onidají

Examples

Dám ti dárek.I'll give you a present.
Dal jsem mu peníze.I gave him the money.
