říkat means "to say" in Czech. Simplest present: já říkám, ty říkáš, on / ona / ono říká, my říkáme, vy říkáte, oni říkají. Below: all 3 tenses we teach, with examples.
Drop the infinitive ending and add the personal ending for each person. This form covers both habitual actions ('I do') and, for imperfective verbs like dělat, actions happening right now ('I am doing').
| já | říkám |
| ty | říkáš |
| on / ona / ono | říká |
| my | říkáme |
| vy | říkáte |
| oni | říkají |
Formed with the l-participle (agreeing with the subject's gender: -l for masculine, -la for feminine, -lo for neuter, -li/-ly for plural) plus the present tense of být as an auxiliary, except in the 3rd person where the auxiliary is dropped.
| já | řekl/a jsem |
| ty | řekl/a jsi |
| on / ona / ono | řekl/a/o |
| my | řekli jsme |
| vy | řekli jste |
| oni | řekli |
Imperfective verbs like dělat add the conjugated auxiliary budu/budeš/bude... before the infinitive. Many common verbs are perfective instead, and simply use their ordinary present-tense endings with future meaning (e.g. udělám, 'I will do/make', from the perfective udělat).
| já | řeknu |
| ty | řekneš |
| on / ona / ono | řekne |
| my | řekneme |
| vy | řeknete |
| oni | řeknou |
| Co říkáš? | What are you saying? |
| Řekl jsem mu to. | I told him that. |
