πληρώνω (pliróno) means "to pay" in Greek. Simplest present: εγώ (egó) πληρώνω (pliróno), εσύ (esí) πληρώνεις (plirónis), αυτός / αυτή / αυτό (aftós / aftí / aftó) πληρώνει (pliróni), εμείς (emís) πληρώνουμε (plirónoume), εσείς (esís) πληρώνετε (plirónete), αυτοί / αυτές / αυτά (aftí / aftés / aftá) πληρώνουν (plirónoun). Below: all 3 tenses we teach, with examples.
Add the personal ending to the stem γραφ-: γράφω, γράφεις, γράφει, γράφουμε, γράφετε, γράφουν. It covers both "I write" and "I am writing", since Greek does not need a separate continuous form for everyday use.
| εγώ (egó) | πληρώνω (pliróno) |
| εσύ (esí) | πληρώνεις (plirónis) |
| αυτός / αυτή / αυτό (aftós / aftí / aftó) | πληρώνει (pliróni) |
| εμείς (emís) | πληρώνουμε (plirónoume) |
| εσείς (esís) | πληρώνετε (plirónete) |
| αυτοί / αυτές / αυτά (aftí / aftés / aftá) | πληρώνουν (plirónoun) |
The aorist adds the augment έ- to the perfective stem γραψ- and its own endings: έγραψα, έγραψες, έγραψε, γράψαμε, γράψατε, έγραψαν. This is the everyday way to talk about a finished action in the past.
| εγώ (egó) | πλήρωσα (plírosa) |
| εσύ (esí) | πλήρωσες (plíroses) |
| αυτός / αυτή / αυτό (aftós / aftí / aftó) | πλήρωσε (plírose) |
| εμείς (emís) | πληρώσαμε (plirósame) |
| εσείς (esís) | πληρώσατε (plirósate) |
| αυτοί / αυτές / αυτά (aftí / aftés / aftá) | πλήρωσαν (plírosan) |
Put θα in front of the perfective stem with its own endings: θα γράψω, θα γράψεις, θα γράψει, θα γράψουμε, θα γράψετε, θα γράψουν. This is the normal simple future for a single completed action.
| εγώ (egó) | θα πληρώσω (tha pliróso) |
