Conjugation › Japanese › Harau
Japanese · Verb Tables · Beginner
払う (harau) means "to pay" in Japanese. Simplest present: — 払います (haraimasu). Below: all 3 tenses we teach, with examples.
Use the polite non-past form, made by dropping る from an Ichidan verb and adding ます (masu). It covers both present habitual actions and simple facts.
| — | 払います (haraimasu) |
Replace ます with ました (mashita) to talk about a completed action.
| — | 払いました (haraimashita) |
Japanese has no separate future tense: the same non-past ます form is used for the future, made clear by a time word like 明日 (tomorrow).
| — | 払います (haraimasu) |
| 現金で払います。 Genkin de haraimasu. | I'll pay in cash. |
| カードで払いました。 Kādo de haraimashita. | I paid by card. |
