Conjugation › Polish › Mówić
Polish · Verb Tables · Beginner
mówić means "to say / speak" in Polish. Simplest present: ja mówię, ty mówisz, on / ona / ono mówi, my mówimy, wy mówicie, oni / one mówią. Below: all 3 tenses we teach, with examples.
Add the personal ending to the present stem; there is no separate auxiliary, so 'I read' and 'I am reading' are both simply 'czytam'.
| ja | mówię |
| ty | mówisz |
| on / ona / ono | mówi |
| my | mówimy |
| wy | mówicie |
| oni / one | mówią |
Replace the infinitive ending with a stem plus '-ł-' and a personal ending that also shows gender: masculine subjects use '-łem/-łeś/-ł...', feminine subjects use '-łam/-łaś/-ła...'. Both forms are given together below, e.g. 'czytałem / czytałam'.
| ja | mówiłem / mówiłam |
| ty | mówiłeś / mówiłaś |
| on / ona / ono | mówił / mówiła / mówiło |
| my | mówiliśmy / mówiłyśmy |
| wy | mówiliście / mówiłyście |
| oni / one | mówili / mówiły |
Future (będę + infinitive): conjugate 'być' in the future (będę, będziesz, będzie...) and add the infinitive. This is the easiest future form for imperfective verbs like 'czytać'.
| ja | powiem |
| ty | powiesz |
| on / ona / ono | powie |
| my | powiemy |
| wy | powiecie |
| oni / one | powiedzą |
| Mówię trochę po polsku. | I speak a little Polish. |
| Powiem ci później. | I will tell you later. |
