платить (platit') means "to to pay" in Russian. Simplest present: я (ya) плачу [plachu], ты (ty) платишь [platish'], он / она / оно (on / ona / ono) платит [platit], мы (my) платим [platim], вы (vy) платите [platite], они (oni) платят [platyat]. Below: all 3 tenses we teach, with examples.
Take the imperfective verb, drop -ть and add the personal endings (-ю, -ешь, -ет, -ем, -ете, -ют for group 1). Used for what is happening now, what happens regularly and general facts; there is no separate 'I am working' form.
| я (ya) | плачу [plachu] |
| ты (ty) | платишь [platish'] |
| он / она / оно (on / ona / ono) | платит [platit] |
| мы (my) | платим [platim] |
| вы (vy) | платите [platite] |
| они (oni) | платят [platyat] |
Drop -ть and add -л / -ла / -ло / -ли to agree with the subject's gender and number; the same endings work for every person. Used for anything finished or in the past: Я работал (a man says), Я работала (a woman says).
| я (ya) | платил / платила [platil / platila] |
| ты (ty) | платил / платила [platil / platila] |
| он / она / оно (on / ona / ono) | платил / платила / платило [platil / platila / platilo] |
| мы (my) | платили [platili] |
| вы (vy) | платили [platili] |
| они (oni) | платили [platili] |
Use the future of 'to be' (буду, будешь, будет, будем, будете, будут) plus the imperfective infinitive: Я буду работать = I will work / I am going to work. The perfective future (one word, e.g. я куплю = I will buy) is the other way; you can recognize it now and learn it at Ex-Pat.
| я (ya) | буду платить [budu platit'] |
| ты (ty) | будешь платить [budesh' platit'] |
| он / она / оно (on / ona / ono) | будет платить [budet platit'] |
| мы (my) | будем платить [budem platit'] |
| вы (vy) | будете платить [budete platit'] |
| они (oni) | будут платить [budut platit'] |
| Я плачу картой. ya plachu kartoy | I'm paying by card. |
| Мы уже заплатили за номер. my uzhe zaplatili za nomer | We have already paid for the room. |
