Greetings. Greet with a handshake or a hand on the chest; use the right hand to give and receive.
Islamic dress. Dress modestly with covered shoulders and knees, especially for women, and cover heads for mosque visits.
Ramadan. Do not eat or drink in public during the day in Ramadan, and expect shops and restaurants to adjust their hours.
Comoros is generally calm for visitors, though political tension can occur and infrastructure is limited.
Price changes. Agree on prices for taxis and tours before starting.
Unofficial guides. Use guides from your hotel or the tourism office for hikes such as Karthala.
Women travelers. Women should dress conservatively and expect attention; traveling with a guide helps.
