Not customary; service is included.
Greetings. A handshake with eye contact and a quiet "aluu" (hello) is usual; hugs are for friends and family. Greenlanders are reserved with strangers, so do not expect warm effusive greetings at first.
Punctuality and quiet. Punctuality is valued, and a reserved, understated manner is typical.
Homes. Remove your shoes when entering someone's home.
Tipping. Not customary — service is included in prices.
Sled dogs and hunting. Sled dogs are working animals, not pets — don't approach them; ask before photographing hunting activities.
Greenland is extremely safe with very low crime.
Essentially none. No organized tourist scam networks are reported.
Unlicensed tour operators. For glacier hikes or boat trips, book only with licensed operators — unlicensed guides may lack proper safety equipment for the conditions.
Women travelers. Very safe day and night, though some unwanted attention toward foreign women has been noted in a few towns.
Legal · Safe
Legal with full marriage equality since 2015 as part of the Kingdom of Denmark; generally accepting, though small, traditional communities outside Nuuk may be more reserved.
