Greetings. Men shake hands and then touch the right hand to the heart; friends kiss on the cheeks, often more than once. Wait for a woman to offer her hand. "As-salamu alaykum" is common, followed by questions about health and family.
Modest dress. Dress modestly, especially outside tourist resorts; covering shoulders and knees is respectful, particularly for women.
Ramadan etiquette. Avoid eating, drinking, or smoking in public during daylight hours during Ramadan out of respect for those fasting.
Right hand and haggling. Use your right hand to eat, give, or receive items; bargaining is expected in souks, so negotiate prices for goods and taxis.
Morocco is considered the safest country in Africa for travelers and is rated 'Exercise Normal Precautions' by most governments; the main risks are persistent touts and scams rather than violent crime.
Fake guides / 'wrong way'. Touts in the medinas of Marrakech, Fez, and Tangier insist a street is closed or you're going the wrong way, then demand payment for unsolicited 'help'; politely decline and use an offline map.
Overpriced taxis. Petit taxis may skip the meter and overcharge tourists; insist on the meter or agree a fare before the ride.
Unofficial 'helpers' and shop steering. People giving directions or leading you to a shop may demand money or a commission; keep small bills handy and be firm about not needing help.
Women travelers. Street harassment (comments, persistent attention) is common, especially for solo women, though serious safety incidents are rare; dressing modestly and walking confidently helps reduce unwanted attention.
Criminalized
Same-sex sexual activity is criminalized (6 months to 3 years in prison), and enforcement includes arrests with public naming of suspects; LGBTQ+ travelers should be very discreet and avoid public displays of affection.

Spring (March-May) and fall (September-October) offer the most pleasant, warm-but-not-scorching weather across the coasts, cities, and mountains; summer is very hot inland and in the south, while winter can be cold and wet, especially in the mountains.
