Greetings. Norwegians say "hei" and shake hands with eye contact, including women, men and children, saying their name. Hugs are for close friends and family; cheek kisses are rare. Stand to greet someone.
Punctuality. Norwegians value punctuality highly for both social and business occasions; arrive on time.
Quiet and personal space. Norwegians tend to be reserved with strangers and value personal space; small talk with strangers is less common than in some cultures.
Outdoor etiquette (friluftsliv). Respect for nature is a core value; follow 'leave no trace' principles and the public right to roam (allemannsretten) responsibly.
Norway is among the safest countries in the world for tourists; the main risks are natural and weather-related (icy roads, sudden weather changes, remote hiking trails) rather than crime.
Guaranteed Northern Lights tours. Some operators falsely 'guarantee' aurora sightings, which are never guaranteed as they depend on solar activity and weather; book only through Visit Norway-verified or well-reviewed operators.
Pickpocketing in Oslo/Bergen tourist areas. Petty theft can occur in crowded tourist spots and on public transport; keep valuables secure.
Women travelers. Solo women travelers generally feel very safe throughout Norway, day or night, in cities and rural areas alike.

Summer (June-August) is best for hiking, fjords and midnight sun with long daylight hours; late September to March, especially December-February, is best for chasing the Northern Lights above the Arctic Circle.
