Greetings. A light handshake is normal at first meetings; friends may hug or give a quick cheek kiss, mostly among women or in some social circles. "How are you?" is usually a greeting, not a question needing a long answer.
Queuing. Queues are taken seriously — never cut in line, it's considered very rude.
Pub etiquette. Order and pay at the bar; there's usually no table service, and tipping in pubs isn't expected.
Politeness. "Please" and "thank you" are used frequently, and small talk about the weather is a common icebreaker.
The UK is generally safe with low violent crime against tourists; petty theft in crowded tourist areas and on transit is the main concern.
Unlicensed minicabs. Only use licensed black cabs or booking apps like Uber/Bolt; unlicensed minicabs can overcharge or be unsafe.
Street games and fake petitions. Three-card monte and clipboard petition scams occur in busy tourist areas — walk away.
Unofficial ticket resellers. Buy tickets for attractions and shows only from official sites to avoid inflated or fake tickets.
Women travelers. Generally safe day and night; standard nightlife precautions are sensible in big cities.
