찾다 (chatda) means "to find" in Korean. Simplest present: (subject often dropped; pronoun + 는/은 or 이/가 when stated) 찾아요 (chajayo). Below: all 3 tenses we teach, with examples.
Drop -다 from the dictionary form and add -아요/어요. 가다's stem 가- ends in the bright vowel ㅏ, so it takes -아요, contracting 가+아요 to 가요.
| (subject often dropped; pronoun + 는/은 or 이/가 when stated) | 찾아요 (chajayo) |
Insert -았/었- before the polite ending: 가- + -았- + -어요 becomes 갔어요.
| (subject often dropped; pronoun + 는/은 or 이/가 when stated) | 찾았어요 (chajasseoyo) |
Add -(으)ㄹ 거예요 ("going to / will") to the stem: 가- + -ㄹ 거예요 becomes 갈 거예요.
| (subject often dropped; pronoun + 는/은 or 이/가 when stated) | 찾을 거예요 (chajeul geoyeyo) |
| 저는 호텔을 찾아요. Jeoneun hotereul chajayo. | I'm looking for the hotel. |
| 열쇠를 찾았어요. Yeolsoereul chajasseoyo. | I found the keys. |
