필요하다 (piryohada) means "to need" in Korean. Simplest present: (subject often dropped; pronoun + 는/은 or 이/가 when stated) 필요해요 (piryohaeyo). Below: all 3 tenses we teach, with examples.
Drop -다 from the dictionary form and add -아요/어요. 가다's stem 가- ends in the bright vowel ㅏ, so it takes -아요, contracting 가+아요 to 가요.
| (subject often dropped; pronoun + 는/은 or 이/가 when stated) | 필요해요 (piryohaeyo) |
Insert -았/었- before the polite ending: 가- + -았- + -어요 becomes 갔어요.
| (subject often dropped; pronoun + 는/은 or 이/가 when stated) | 필요했어요 (piryohaesseoyo) |
Add -(으)ㄹ 거예요 ("going to / will") to the stem: 가- + -ㄹ 거예요 becomes 갈 거예요.
| (subject often dropped; pronoun + 는/은 or 이/가 when stated) | 필요할 거예요 (piryohal geoyeyo) |
