French citizens can enter Hungary with an ID card or passport (free movement).
Free movement: ID or passport is enough
French citizens travel in the EU and Schengen area with a valid passport or national ID card. There are normally no border checks between Schengen countries, but carry your document: you must show it when a country applies temporary border controls and when you travel between a Schengen country and Cyprus or Ireland.
